New Delhi, August 20: Ayurveda views mental health not just in terms of stress or anxiety but as a balance between the mind, body, and spirit. It believes that a balanced lifestyle positively impacts both mental and physical health.
In today’s fast-paced world, work pressure, prolonged screen time, lack of sleep, and irregular routines can lead to mental fatigue. Incorporating a healthy lifestyle along with traditional yoga and Ayurvedic practices can help calm the mind.
The Ministry of AYUSH recently highlighted on its social media account the importance of practices like Shirodhara, Shiro Abhyanga, meditation, pranayama, and yoga asanas for enhancing mental health. Shirodhara involves a gentle stream of medicinal oil poured on the forehead, considered extremely relaxing and beneficial for stress relief. Similarly, Shiro Abhyanga, or head massage with medicinal oils, can also provide comfort amidst stress and fatigue.
Meditation, or the practice of focusing the mind, aids in calming thoughts and organizing them. Spending a few moments daily in quiet meditation allows individuals to better manage their thoughts. Pranayama involves controlled breathing techniques, and regular practice can keep the body active while promoting mental clarity and balance.
However, these practices are most effective when combined with a healthy diet, adequate sleep, regular physical activity, and a balanced routine. It is advisable to consult a specialist before adopting any Ayurvedic treatment or medicinal process.
