New Delhi, June 27: The Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is currently taking place in England. The performances of the teams in this tournament will influence the next Women’s T20 World Cup (T20 World Cup 2028).
A total of 12 teams are competing in the ongoing T20 World Cup, divided into two groups of six. The top four teams from each group have qualified directly for the next T20 World Cup. From Group A, Australia, India, South Africa, and Bangladesh have secured their spots. In Group B, England, West Indies, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka have also qualified.
Pakistan, despite being fifth in Group A with one win, has qualified for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2028 due to its status as the host nation for the upcoming tournament.
Scotland missed out on direct qualification for the next T20 World Cup after losing to Sri Lanka on Friday.
So far, a total of nine teams, including host Pakistan, have qualified for the next Women’s T20 World Cup. The tenth spot will be filled by the highest-ranked team in the international T20 rankings as of the cutoff date of July 6, 2026. Currently, Ireland holds the ninth position and is likely to secure that spot. The remaining two places will be determined through a global qualifier involving ten teams.
The Netherlands, currently ranked 14th, may need to compete in the qualifiers to secure a place in the main event. Scotland (currently 11th) and Ireland (currently 9th) could also be eliminated if they drop significantly in the rankings.
The ICC has also announced the team combinations for the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy, set to take place in Sri Lanka next year. The host team will be joined by the top five teams in the T20 rankings as of the July 6 cutoff. As it stands, Australia, England, India, New Zealand, and South Africa have already secured their spots in the tournament.
