Egg Thrown at TMC Legislator Kunal Ghosh Amidst Security Concerns

Kolkata, June 15: In a shocking incident in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislator Kunal Ghosh was targeted with an egg while addressing the media outside the residence of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Following the incident, Ghosh criticized the BJP government for what he termed a serious lapse in security.

Ghosh explained that he had arrived at Banerjee’s home for a meeting with senior leaders. As he was leaving, he was stopped by the media for questions, during which one of two young men threw an egg at him. He managed to turn his face at the last moment, avoiding a direct hit to his glasses or eyes, thus preventing a severe injury. He noted that he was standing there without any security, making him an easy target.

Expressing his concern, Ghosh questioned the safety of senior leaders like Sougata Roy, Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay, Kalyan Banerjee, Madan Mitra, or Abhijit Banerjee, suggesting that the situation could have been much more serious had they been in his place. He raised the alarming question of whether anyone could now visit Mamata Banerjee’s residence safely.

Ghosh also targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, alleging attempts to disrupt the political atmosphere in the state. He pointed out that while some party leaders discuss alternative political options, they are not being accepted within their respective parties.

In response to the egg-throwing incident, MP Kalyan Banerjee remarked, “What has happened to West Bengal? While legislator Kunal Ghosh was speaking to the press outside ‘Didi’s’ house, BJP goons threw eggs at him. The police were present but did nothing. When the CID was here, I mentioned that both witnesses are linked to the BJP. One of them was this young man (showing a picture on his phone), who was part of the group that threw the egg. I called the police commissioner, and after 25-30 minutes, no one has arrived. Our lives are in danger. This is the state of affairs in West Bengal.”

On the other hand, the young man who threw the egg, identified as Chandan, told the media that Ghosh had committed many injustices against them. “Today, he deserved to be hit with eggs,” he stated.
