Pathanamthitta, May 27: Leaders of the CPI(M) have expressed their strong opposition to the eight-hour raid conducted by state police at the residence of former Chief Minister and opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan and his family members. In response, the Left Democratic Front has announced a significant protest in Pathanamthitta on the evening of May 28.
State-level leaders of the Left Democratic Front will participate in a protest march at 4 PM on Thursday. CPI(M) leaders have alleged that the Chief Minister of Kerala visited Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and took retaliatory actions based on an agreement between the Congress party and the BJP at the state level.
Alex Kannamala, the district convenor of the Left Democratic Front in Pathanamthitta, stated that the upcoming protest will send a strong message to those who believe that the power of the left has diminished.
Earlier, CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby sharply criticized the BJP-led central government and the Congress regarding the Enforcement Directorate’s raid connected to the CMRL-Exalogic case involving Pinarayi Vijayan.
Baby described the raid as a “heinous crime against Pinarayi Vijayan” and accused the central government of politically targeting the CPI(M) and its leading figure in Kerala by using investigative agencies.
He noted, “The basis for this raid is said to be an order from the Kerala High Court, which allowed the Enforcement Directorate to continue its investigation. However, Veena Vijayan has consistently cooperated with the investigation and appeared before officials when summoned.”
The Enforcement Directorate began simultaneous raids at 6 AM on Wednesday at Vijayan’s residences in Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur, as well as at the home of former minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas in Kozhikode, and other locations linked to Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited.
Mohammed Riyas is the husband of Veena Vijayan and a CPI(M) MLA from Beypore.
