Datia, August 3: The counting of votes for the by-election in the Datia assembly constituency of Madhya Pradesh is currently underway. Early trends indicate that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in the lead. The counting process is set to occur over 15 rounds, with a total of 21 counters established for this purpose. Two rounds of counting have already been completed, showing a lead for the BJP.
Reports suggest that the BJP led in the first round, while the Congress gained an advantage in the second round. However, overall, the BJP maintains a lead of 965 votes.
Voting for the Datia assembly by-election took place on July 30, with a turnout of 71.44%. The counting began on Monday, focusing on the contest between BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari and Congress’s Ghanshyam Singh, with a triangular contest involving Damodar Yadav.
Before the counting commenced, the Congress party took significant action by suspending former MLA Rajendra Bharti for alleged indiscipline. He is accused of campaigning against the party during the by-election. The counting is taking place at the Polytechnic College, starting at 8 AM with the postal ballot counting.
Following that, the counting of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) votes began at 8:30 AM. A total of 21 counters have been set up, with 20 designated for EVM counting and one for postal ballots. Each counting counter is staffed by three personnel who will carry out the counting in accordance with the Election Commission’s protocols.
The district election officer has instructed relevant officials to ensure strict adherence to the Election Commission’s guidelines at every stage of the counting process, maintaining transparency, fairness, and a peaceful environment throughout.
