Celebrity Makeup Artist Arrested Over Controversial Remarks About Prime Minister Modi

Kozhikode, August 20: A well-known makeup artist, Janmoni Das, was arrested by Kozhikode city cyber police on Thursday. This followed allegations of making derogatory comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother, Heeraben, during a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

Janmoni was later released on bail, as the charges against her are bailable. The complaint was filed by Navya Haridas, the president of the Kerala BJP Women’s Wing.

According to the FIR, Janmoni allegedly made defamatory and insulting remarks against the Prime Minister with the intent to incite public disorder and disturb peace.

The arrest sparked controversy, with Janmoni claiming her comments were misinterpreted. As the situation escalated, she posted a video on Instagram apologizing for the controversy and clarifying her stance.

She explained that her remarks were made in response to media inquiries after viewing content related to the protest in Delhi. Janmoni attributed part of the misunderstanding to her limited proficiency in the Malayalam language, stating that her intentions were misconstrued.

In the video, she emphasized that she did not intend to hurt anyone and clarified that she was not speaking about the Prime Minister’s mother. She realized the gravity of the situation when friends contacted her, informing her that the video had become a significant issue.

Janmoni claimed she subsequently requested those who posted the video to remove it. Following the video’s release, she received numerous threatening calls and messages from various locations, including Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, and different parts of India. “I don’t know what to do. I’m receiving many threatening calls,” she stated.

She reiterated that she had merely asked a question regarding the content she had seen and was not making any statements against Prime Minister Modi. However, her explanation did not satisfy the state BJP women’s wing, which dismissed her apology. They stated that the comments made against the Prime Minister and his mother could not be brushed off as a mere “linguistic misunderstanding.” Meanwhile, police are investigating the allegations.

The FIR clearly states that the alleged comments were made with the intent to insult the Prime Minister and disrupt social harmony.
