Mumbai, February 27: In today’s cinematic landscape, sensitive topics are often presented in sensational ways. However, some filmmakers aim to portray stories with subtlety. The recently released film ‘Accused’ is one such endeavor.
This film addresses a serious issue and has received positive responses from audiences. During a recent conversation, director Anubhuti Kashyap shared her thoughts on the essential elements she considered while crafting the story and also addressed the film’s ambiguity.

In an interview during the film’s promotion, Anubhuti emphasized, “The most crucial aspect for me was to avoid sensationalism. ‘Accused’ revolves around a woman who is accused of sexual harassment. This is an extremely sensitive subject, and maintaining balance while depicting it was essential.”
The film features Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Ranta in lead roles, both of whom have portrayed their characters with depth.
Anubhuti stated, “From the beginning, my team believed that this story should be presented from a specific perspective and with empathy. If it were presented with the intent to shock or create controversy, it would be unjust to the narrative. While writing the script, we ensured that the film’s treatment remained nuanced and sensitive. The aim was not to shock the audience but to provoke thought.”
She added, “There are scenes in the film that might make viewers uncomfortable, but they are integral to the story’s truth. We haven’t provided direct answers to every question. Many aspects have been intentionally left open-ended for the audience to ponder and draw their conclusions. I believe cinema is not just a medium for providing answers but also a platform for raising questions.”
Anubhuti concluded, “All these decisions were made thoughtfully. While writing the script, I constantly considered that the treatment should match the sensitivity the story demands. Working on such topics is not easy, but if presented responsibly, it can leave a profound impact on the audience.”
