London, August 4: Despite missing the cut at the AIG Women’s Open, Diksha Dagar has retained her position among the top players on the Ladies European Tour (LET), leading the Indian challenge in the ‘Race to Costa del Sol’ standings.
Following the year’s final major tournament, Diksha, a two-time winner on the LET, slipped from sixth to eighth place in the season-long ‘Order of Merit.’ However, she remains the highest-ranked Indian player on this circuit.
Diksha’s ranking reflects a consistently strong season. She has frequently placed in the top 10, showcasing her talent and solidifying her status among the tour’s elite players.
Looking ahead, Diksha will focus on the London Championship at Centurion Club, where she will once again lead a five-member Indian team. This tournament is crucial for her to secure valuable points in the ‘Race to Costa del Sol,’ providing another opportunity to strengthen her position in the top 10 and aim for her best season-ending finish.
Although her journey in the season’s last major tournament ended at Royal Lytham & St Annes, it has not significantly impacted her impressive year.
In London, Diksha will be joined by four other Indian players, each at different stages of their LET careers.
Rookie Avani Prashanth has had an encouraging first full season and currently sits in 45th place in the ‘Race to Costa del Sol’ standings. The young golfer from Bengaluru has demonstrated her immense potential with several strong performances and aims to maintain her momentum in the second half of the season.
Close behind her is Pranavi Urs, ranked 48th in the ‘Order of Merit.’ Pranavi has faced tough competition this season and will strive to improve her standing with a strong showing at Centurion Club. Aditi Ashok, India’s most successful golfer on the European Tour and a five-time LET winner, is in 58th place after mixed performances.
Also among the Indian players is Hitashee Bakshi, gaining valuable experience in her first full season on the Ladies European Tour. Currently ranked 127th, Hitashee hopes to advance as she adapts to the challenges of competing against Europe’s best players.
The upcoming phase of the ‘Race to Costa del Sol’ promises to be highly competitive. Following impressive performances, South Africa’s Cassandra Alexander leads the ‘Order of Merit,’ while Singapore’s Shannon Tan is also in the mix, seeking another strong finish to close the gap with the top players.
