Beijing, August 4: Recently, major reports have emerged from American magazine Fortune, British newspaper Financial Times, and German newspaper Die Zeit, highlighting China’s AI industry. According to these reports, high-performance open-source AI models developed by Chinese companies are gaining recognition in the global market, with their usage rapidly increasing.
In this context, the Associated Press and Die Zeit reported on the Kimi K3 model from the Chinese company Moonshot AI. Developers from several countries, including the United States, are adopting this model. Its growing popularity has raised concerns among American tech companies. Closed-source firms like OpenAI and Anthropic have called for government intervention on this issue.
Meanwhile, 179 American companies have written to the White House opposing efforts to restrict startups’ access to foreign open-source models. They argue that such measures would weaken competition.
Fortune’s report indicates that Chinese companies are offering their AI models for free. Additionally, due to the rising protectionist policies in the U.S., the demand for Chinese AI models may increase in the future.
Furthermore, the Financial Times noted that China is presenting an alternative model for AI development. This approach aims to make AI technology more accessible through open-source models while providing thousands of training opportunities and AI application centers to developing countries.
According to the report, American closed-source models are quite expensive for most countries in the Global South. Thus, the proposed Global AI Cooperation Organization could serve as a crucial platform for delivering China’s technology and open-source AI models to these nations.
