Ujjain, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : Early in the morning on September 30, 2026, a magnificent Bhasma Aarti was held at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. This event attracted a significant number of devotees eager to witness the divine ceremony of one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal” as the atmosphere filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras, immersing devotees in devotion.
On this auspicious occasion of Vighnaraja Sankashti Chaturthi, which falls on the fourth day of the waning moon in the month of Ashwin, Lord Mahakal was adorned with special decorations. Following the command of Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the accompaniment of drums and traditional music. A ceremonial bathing of Lord Mahakal took place in the sanctum, using Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices.
During the rituals, the first bell was rung to offer water to Baba, followed by the Kapoor Aarti, after which Lord Mahakal was crowned. The Bhasma Aarti commenced amidst the sounds of cymbals, drums, and conch shells, with sacred ash being offered by the Mahanirvani Akhara. Witnessing this divine spectacle, the devotees were filled with emotion.
In keeping with the spirit of Vighnaraja Sankashti Chaturthi, Lord Mahakal was beautifully adorned in the form of Lord Ganesha. The deity was decorated with cannabis, peacock feathers, sandalwood, and vermillion. Offerings of dry fruits, fruits, and sweets were presented. Lord Mahakal wore a silver crown of Sheshnag, a silver necklace, and a rudraksha garland, along with a fragrant flower garland.
The Bhasma Aarti at Mahakal Temple holds significant tradition and religious importance. According to custom, the sacred ash is offered by the Mahanirvani Akhara. It is believed that after receiving the ash, Lord Mahakal reveals his form to the devotees. This belief draws thousands of pilgrims from across the country to Ujjain to partake in the divine Aarti.
