Kolkata, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh has reacted strongly to Congress’s protests against the Election Commission. Speaking to the media in Kolkata, he pointed out that Congress previously governed for ten years and was elected under the same commission they now criticize.
“The Election Commission that brought them to power is the same one they are blaming now,” Ghosh stated. He emphasized that in states where Congress is in power, they won elections under the same commission. “If their own president has lost, how can the party expect to win?” he questioned.
Ghosh also addressed complaints regarding electronic voting machines (EVMs), Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs), and voter lists. He asked why Congress does not present their grievances directly to the Election Commission if they believe there are issues. “This is merely an attempt to mislead the public. People are aware that the opposition is just running around without any real work,” he asserted. He believes that those who focus on development will gain public support.
Additionally, Ghosh commented on the Special Investigation Report (SIR) process, which he claimed has effectively removed fraudulent voters, including those without citizenship or proper documentation. He dismissed any emotional appeals from such individuals as futile.
Regarding the recent trip of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee to Delhi for a meeting of the ‘India’ bloc, Ghosh remarked, “The media is only interested in their travel to and from Delhi. What will come of it? Nothing significant.”
