Grand Ritual at Mahakaleshwar Temple Attracts Devotees in Ujjain

Ujjain, June 16: The Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a grand Bhasma Aarti on Tuesday, marking the auspicious occasion of Jyestha Shukla Paksha Dvitiya. The deity, Baba Mahakal, was adorned with sacred Bel leaves inscribed with the name of Rama, enhancing the divine ambiance. As devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba, the air resonated with the chant, “Jai Shri Mahakal.”

Early Tuesday morning, after seeking the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. Following the divine decoration and Bhasma Aarti, the temple complex filled with the joyous cries of devotees proclaiming “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was alive with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and the chanting of mantras.

As the doors of the Mahakal Temple opened, devotees performed a water abhishek with Panchamrit, made from milk, yogurt, ghee, sugar, and fruit juices, amidst the chanting of mantras. Offerings included Trishuls, Tripundras, Damarus, cannabis, sandalwood, and the sacred Bel leaves.

The temple priests conducted the grand Aarti, attracting a large number of devotees eager to witness the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal. Many had queued since late Saturday night to seek blessings from their revered deity.

Traditionally, the ashes from cremation grounds were offered to Mahakal, but now, a special Bhasma made from the dung of Kapila cows and medicinal herbs is used. During the Bhasma Aarti, it is mandatory for men to wear traditional dhoti-sola and women to wear sarees.

The Aarti of Baba Mahakal is renowned across the country and abroad, drawing both the general public and prominent personalities. To maintain order during this event, a significant number of police personnel are deployed around the temple.
