Nicosia, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : In Nicosia on September 18, Indian High Commissioner Manish met with senior officials from Cyprus’s Foreign Ministry to conduct a comprehensive review of the India-Cyprus bilateral agenda. The discussions focused on progress in priority areas of cooperation, reaffirming both nations’ commitment to translating their leaders’ vision into tangible outcomes.
The Indian High Commission shared details of the meeting on the social media platform X, noting that High Commissioner Manish congratulated Deputy Political Director Polly Ioannou, Diplomatic Office Officer Demetris Asos, and Head of the Asia and Oceania Department Georgios Georgiou on their new appointments.
The meeting included a thorough assessment of advancements in the bilateral agenda and cooperation areas between India and Cyprus. Both sides reiterated their commitment to maintaining close coordination and turning the vision of their leaders into concrete results, thereby strengthening the bilateral partnership.
Previously, in August, High Commissioner Manish met with Nicholas A. Loannides, the Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection. They discussed the progress made toward finalizing the India-Cyprus Migration and Mobility Agreement.
The meeting also highlighted the significant contribution of Indian professionals and workers to Cyprus’s economy and society. Issues related to their welfare, fair treatment, and safety were addressed. The High Commissioner raised concerns about certain matters affecting Indian workers and stressed the need to enhance safe, legal, and skill-based labor mobility between India and Cyprus.
Both parties discussed the necessity of finalizing the agreement in a timely manner. This agreement aligns with the consensus reached during Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides’s visit to India in May 2026. There was a strong emphasis on establishing a legal and predictable framework for the movement of people.
Loannides assured continuous cooperation from the ministry in resolving issues related to Indian workers in Cyprus.
During the May 2026 visit, President Christodoulides met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where both leaders agreed to elevate India-Cyprus relations to a strategic level and enhance cooperation across various sectors, including defense and transportation connectivity.
