Demand for Hostels and Dharamshalas from Seized Properties of Corrupt Officials in Bihar

Patna, June 10: Neeraj Kumar, the chief spokesperson of the ruling Janata Dal (United) in Bihar, has called for stringent action against officials arrested for corruption. He emphasized that the Bihar government’s zero-tolerance policy should extend beyond merely seizing their illegal assets. These properties should be utilized for public welfare projects. On Wednesday, he stated that the officials arrested by the Special Vigilance Unit amassed vast wealth through the misuse of their positions.

Kumar insisted that properties belonging to officials with millions in illegal assets should be clearly marked as seized due to corruption. He specifically mentioned Executive Engineer Tarini Das, suggesting that a hostel for Dalit students should be established on his confiscated land. Similarly, he proposed that the property of Engineer Umesh Kumar Singh be repurposed to create a hostel for engineering students, ensuring direct benefits for society.

Kumar also referred to the property of Mumukshu Chaudhary located in Gaya, advocating for its use to construct a dharamshala for pilgrims coming for pinda daan rituals. He argued that this would not only give meaning to their names but also provide a valuable service to the community. He urged Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary to uphold the zero-tolerance policy against corruption initiated by former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, calling for swift and effective action in such cases.

Additionally, he appealed to the judiciary to expedite all legal processes to ensure quick resolutions in corruption cases. Kumar highlighted that individuals committing economic crimes pose a significant threat to society and the state, necessitating immediate action against them.

It is noteworthy that investigations into the high-profile Rishu Shri case, linked to alleged kickbacks in government contracts, rampant corruption, and money laundering, have intensified. Under the rapid actions of the Special Vigilance Unit, one officer at the joint secretary level and two senior engineers have already been arrested, while efforts to apprehend IAS officer Sanjeev Hans are underway.

Among those arrested are officials from the finance department, including Mumukshu Chaudhary, Tarini Das, and Engineer Umesh Kumar Singh. Meanwhile, IAS officer Sanjeev Hans remains at large.
