Mumbai, February 18: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar has called for a CBI investigation into the plane crash that resulted in the death of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Congress leader Naseem Khan supported this demand, stating that a thorough investigation is essential given the circumstances surrounding Ajit Pawar’s untimely demise.
In a conversation in Mumbai, Khan emphasized Ajit Pawar’s significant contributions to Maharashtra. He remarked that the sudden loss due to a plane crash warrants an investigation to address the questions that have arisen.
Regarding the Maharashtra government’s decision to abolish the 5 percent reservation for Muslims, Khan stated that they would analyze all aspects based on the order and court directives that led to this decision. He affirmed that the Congress party would take necessary democratic steps in response.
Khan explained that this reservation was initially established by the Congress government in 2014 to support various backward sections of the Muslim community. An ordinance was issued, and the matter later reached the High Court, which recognized the backwardness of many groups within the Muslim community. The court issued an interim order to maintain educational reservations while deferring decisions on government job reservations. Following the change in government to the BJP, the reservations based on the backwardness of the Muslim community were revoked, which Khan condemned.
On the question of Congress contesting the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections independently, Khan noted that the situation in Bengal is unique. He mentioned that the Congress party and its leadership would make a decision in the coming days.
