
New Delhi, March 24: The Delhi government presented a budget of ₹1,03,700 crore for the fiscal year 2026-27 on Tuesday. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that this budget is not merely a document of figures but a roadmap for improving the lives of every citizen in Delhi. A significant focus has been placed on balancing development with environmental sustainability, with 21% of the total budget allocated as a ‘Green Budget.’
According to the government, Delhi’s economy continues to strengthen. The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) was ₹12.13 lakh crore in 2024-25 and is projected to rise to ₹13.27 lakh crore in 2025-26.
To enhance infrastructure, the government proposed ₹5,921 crore for the Public Works Department and ₹7,887 crore for the Urban Development Department. Additionally, ₹300 crore has been earmarked for development in Yamuna Par, ₹800 crore for unauthorized colonies, and ₹787 crore for rural areas.
Plans include the redevelopment of 750 km of roads, new flyovers, underpasses, and foot-over bridges at a cost of ₹25 crore. The Barapulla Corridor is expected to be completed by June 2026.
For the power sector, a budget of ₹3,942 crore has been allocated, with a focus on promoting solar energy and underground power lines.
Rekha Gupta announced that ₹9,000 crore has been allocated for water and sewerage systems. The capacity of sewage treatment plants will increase from 707 MGD to 814 MGD, with a target of reaching 1,500 MGD.
In the health sector, ₹12,645 crore has been set aside. Several incomplete hospitals will be completed, and ₹150 crore will be allocated for expanding ICU facilities. The Ayushman scheme will be expanded to cover 750,000 individuals, and 750 new health centers will be established. A new initiative, ‘Anmol,’ will provide 56 types of free tests for newborns.
For education, ₹19,148 crore has been allocated. This includes the creation of 8,777 smart classrooms and the provision of free bicycles for female students. Meritorious students will receive laptops, and major projects like new ITIs, EduCity, and a sports university are also proposed.
The budget for women and child development stands at ₹7,406 crore. Initiatives such as free bus travel for women, free gas cylinders, and the ‘Lakshmi Beti Yojana’ will continue. Additionally, 50,000 new CCTV cameras and 11 new one-stop centers will be established.
For transportation, ₹8,374 crore has been allocated. By 2027, 7,500 buses, including 5,800 electric ones, will be introduced on the roads, with a target of 12,000 e-buses by 2029. Investments in the Delhi Metro and the Namo Bharat Corridor will also increase. New plans for the MSME sector will be launched, providing training for 32,000 MSMEs and connecting 15,000 to digital platforms. The government is also set to introduce new warehousing, semiconductor, and drone policies.
CM Rekha Gupta announced that the tourism budget has been increased from ₹121 crore to ₹412 crore. For the first time, an International Film Festival will be held in Delhi, and ₹300 crore will be spent on beautifying the city. An allocation of ₹822 crore has been made for environmental initiatives, focusing on pollution control, waste-to-energy plants, and a carbon credit scheme. The goal is to increase waste disposal capacity from 7,000 to 15,000 metric tons per day.
