Bhopal, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stressed the pivotal role of the judiciary in maintaining a vibrant and robust democracy in India. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony organized by the Advocate General’s office in Jabalpur, he noted that the country’s rich judicial tradition and the synergy between the bar and the bench have fortified the democratic framework.
Yadav pointed out that amidst political and social turmoil in many nations, India stands resilient as the world’s largest democracy, largely due to its judicial system. He praised the commitment of the judiciary to the Constitution and highlighted its historical significance, especially during challenging times like the Emergency.
He elaborated on the deep-rooted ideals of justice within Indian culture, literature, and social life, referencing works such as Munshi Premchand’s story “Panch Parmeshwar” and films like “Mother India.” These examples reflect a broader societal commitment to justice and moral values.
The Chief Minister acknowledged that India’s democratic tradition has faced numerous trials. He emphasized that even during the Emergency, the judiciary’s decisions played a crucial role in shaping the nation’s democratic history. Yadav affirmed that the justice system and constitutional institutions have been instrumental in upholding the core spirit of democracy.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Yadav mentioned efforts to modernize the justice system by repealing outdated colonial laws and implementing new ones. He highlighted that over 900 obsolete laws have been abolished in Madhya Pradesh, streamlining governance to meet contemporary needs.
Yadav remarked on the beauty of democracy, which allows the courts to operate independently while elected governments fulfill their responsibilities. He acknowledged the challenges in understanding when to approach the courts and when to submit memoranda.
Referencing neighboring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, he celebrated India’s status as the most populous democracy, noting the pride in maintaining a stable democratic system. He welcomed Chief Justice Alokesh Yashwant Kogje to Jabalpur and expressed confidence that his tenure would further enhance the judicial tradition in the state.
Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh added that Jabalpur is not only known for its cultural heritage but also as a center of justice, hosting the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He emphasized that the occasion was not just a celebration but a reaffirmation of commitment to justice and constitutional values, which are the foundation of a strong democratic system.
Chief Justice Kogje highlighted the essential roles of the bar and bench in the administration of justice, emphasizing their shared goal of protecting citizens’ rights and ensuring impartial justice. He called for mutual respect and a commitment to the rule of law between these two pillars of the judiciary.
He acknowledged that differences in opinion may arise during judicial proceedings, but these should be resolved with professionalism and a shared dedication to justice. Kogje praised the efforts of Advocate General Prashant Singh in making the justice system more accessible and effective.
The Chief Justice expressed gratitude to all present, including CM Yadav, Minister Singh, and other dignitaries, for their contributions to the judicial system. He recognized the Advocate General’s office as a vital pillar of the judicial framework, responsible not only for representing the government but also for fostering better coordination between the bar and the bench.
Kogje likened the Advocate General’s office to a university that provides lawyers with extensive experience and learning opportunities, preparing them for significant societal responsibilities. He encouraged lawyers to embrace their professional duties with dignity and wished them success in achieving their goals while earning respect through their work.
He concluded by urging all legal professionals to honor their institutional responsibilities and work collaboratively for the betterment of society.
