Delhi Minister Praises Budget for Social Welfare and Justice

New Delhi, February 8: Delhi’s Social Welfare Minister, Ravinder Indraj Singh, commended the Union Budget 2026-27 on Saturday. He stated that the increased allocations for social justice and welfare will elevate both the nation and Delhi to new heights.

He noted that provisions for social justice and welfare sectors have seen an increase of approximately 12.5%, reaching nearly ₹14,800 crores. This boost will strengthen efforts to uplift marginalized and disadvantaged communities.

Ravinder Indraj Singh emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, this budget prioritizes social justice, inclusive development, and the empowerment of marginalized groups in society.

He mentioned that over ₹9,200 crores have been allocated to ensure greater participation of Scheduled Caste and Other Backward Class students and youth. This funding aims to expand opportunities in education, skill development, and employment.

The budget also allocates around ₹1,350 crores for the empowerment of persons with disabilities, providing them with assistive devices, skill development, and job opportunities.

For senior citizens, a decision has been made to train over 150,000 caregivers, which will significantly benefit urban states, especially Delhi, by strengthening care systems.

Highlighting the cooperative sector, the minister pointed out that there has been a nearly 45% increase in this area, with provisions of about ₹1,150 crores. This growth will promote agriculture, digitization, training, and employment.

The minister further stated that initiatives have been taken to provide essential goods to the public at affordable prices through cooperatives and shops.

He concluded by mentioning that efforts will also be made to promote the cooperative movement in Delhi through training and the development of institutional infrastructure.
