Ghaziabad, August 28: The celebration of Raksha Bandhan has ignited political tensions following Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav’s act of tying rakhi on Muslim women. BJP MLA Nand Kishore Gurjar from Ghaziabad has made pointed remarks, claiming, “I have seen the rakhi being tied.”
Gurjar asserted that Muslim women celebrating the festival have stepped outside the bounds of Islam, effectively becoming ‘kafirs’ or Hindus. He praised Yadav for facilitating the ‘ghar wapsi’ (homecoming) of these women, suggesting that their families have now embraced Hinduism.
On Raksha Bandhan, Akhilesh Yadav tied rakhi to women and female party workers at his offices in Saifai and Lucknow. In response, Gurjar commented, “We are saying that the rakhi was indeed tied. Even if it wasn’t done in the traditional manner during the festival, it was certainly tied. A leader from our side had done something similar by inviting Muslim women to the Teej festival.”
He continued, stating that all the sisters who celebrated Teej and sang its songs could not remain within the confines of Islam. By doing so, they effectively became kafirs, or Hindus. In this way, Yadav has performed a commendable act by facilitating the ‘ghar wapsi’ of Muslim sisters, implying that their families have also transitioned to Hinduism.
Earlier, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Akhilesh Yadav issued a message to the mothers, sisters, and daughters of Uttar Pradesh, emphasizing that the respect, safety, dreams, and aspirations of women are not merely political issues for him but personal commitments. He expressed his dedication to creating a Uttar Pradesh where women have equal opportunities, justice, dignity, education, health, employment, and leadership rights.
In a letter, Yadav stated, “My dear mothers, sisters, and daughters, Raksha Bandhan is not just a festival; it symbolizes trust, respect, safety, and the sacred responsibility of relationships. On this occasion, I want to assure you that your respect, safety, dreams, and aspirations are not just political matters for me, but personal resolutions.”
