Shillong, August 4: Following a petrol bomb attack by masked individuals at the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) office, the East Khasi Hills district administration assured the public on Monday that strict legal action would be taken against the perpetrators. They urged citizens not to spread rumors regarding the incident.
In an official statement, the administration expressed its seriousness about the attack that occurred around 12:10 PM in Lumphingnad, where two masked individuals threw a petrol bomb towards the premises.
According to the district police’s preliminary investigation, the petrol bomb struck the outer wall of the building before the attackers fled. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities, and the damage to property was minimal, limited to some discoloration on the outer wall.
The administration confirmed that the East Khasi Hills police have registered a criminal case and initiated a thorough investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.
Police teams are currently analyzing forensic evidence and reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
Issuing a warning for strict action, the administration stated that any individual or group found to be directly or indirectly involved would face legal consequences. They emphasized that such incidents undermine public safety and the rule of law.
The district administration also appealed to citizens to maintain peace and refrain from disseminating unverified information related to the incident.
They encouraged anyone with information or video footage regarding the event to contact the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in East Khasi Hills, assuring that the identities of informants would be kept confidential.
The investigation into the motive behind the petrol bomb attack is ongoing, and no arrests have been made so far.
