Delhi High Court Hears Rana Ayyubs Social Media Post Removal Petition

New Delhi, April 10: The Delhi High Court held a hearing regarding a petition seeking the removal of inflammatory posts by journalist Rana Ayyub from social media, dating from 2013 to 2017. During the proceedings, the Delhi Police informed the court that a letter had been sent to the central government to initiate the removal of the controversial posts, following the legal procedures outlined by law.

The next hearing in this case is scheduled for May 19. Ayyub’s lawyer has requested additional time to respond to the petition filed by complainant Amita Sachdeva, which demands the removal of Ayyub’s posts.

The lawyer also stated that she would challenge the validity of the petition in her response. In a previous hearing, the court remarked that certain posts concerning Hindu deities and Veer Savarkar appeared to be objectionable and inflammatory.

The petition alleges that some of Ayyub’s older posts on social media are offensive and requests their removal from the platform. The court is currently reviewing the matter through legal proceedings, with both parties presenting their arguments. The court has instructed all parties to submit the necessary documents.

The Delhi Police further informed the court that the process of removing content from online platforms is progressing in accordance with information technology regulations. Correspondence has been sent to the relevant authorities, and investigations and technical reviews are ongoing.

The court stated that it would reach a final decision only after hearing all arguments, and no conclusive remarks have been made about either party at this time. The legal debate between both sides continues, and the situation will be clarified in the next hearing.
