New Delhi, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : The Delhi government has taken a significant step towards establishing the capital as a leading startup hub. On September 6, officials, including Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood, held a crucial meeting with startup founders and industry representatives to discuss the implementation of the Startup and Incubation Policy 2026.
During a media briefing following the meeting, Chief Minister Gupta expressed optimism about fulfilling promises made to the youth of Delhi. She stated, “We have developed a solid roadmap for creating the necessary infrastructure for startups in universities, colleges, and schools, along with establishing incubation centers. Prominent startup founders, CEOs, and industry representatives from across the country have shared their insights, making the policy more practical and conducive to startups.”
Gupta emphasized that the government’s goal extends beyond merely promoting new companies. It aims to foster an environment where young people can contribute to the country’s economic growth through innovation and entrepreneurship. She is confident that policies shaped with industry collaboration will invigorate the startup ecosystem.
Education Minister Ashish Sood highlighted the government’s commitment to effectively implementing the startup and incubation policy through ongoing dialogue with industry stakeholders. He noted that the meeting aimed to understand the experiences of entrepreneurs who have successfully launched businesses in Delhi.
Sood revealed that the government envisions supporting over 10,000 startups during its term and creating more than 400,000 job opportunities. He believes that promoting startup culture will not only increase employment but also strengthen innovation-driven economic development.
Aakash Gupta, co-founder and CEO of Zip Electric, praised the initiative, calling it a significant step towards making Delhi the startup capital of India. He remarked that the campaign to encourage youth entrepreneurship and provide guidance to new founders is highly positive, especially for college students aspiring to start their own ventures.
Aakash Gupta expressed hope that Delhi would eventually introduce a startup policy that gains recognition not just in India but globally.
Meanwhile, Puneet Gupta, founder and CEO of AstroTalk, commended the government’s approach of directly seeking suggestions from startup founders. He shared that his company had considered starting operations in Delhi previously but found the conditions unsuitable at that time. However, recent discussions with the Chief Minister and ministers indicate a serious commitment from the Delhi government to support startups.
He emphasized that if the government continues to incorporate industry feedback into policy-making, it will lead to more effective and impactful initiatives. According to Puneet Gupta, such efforts will provide opportunities for new entrepreneurs and create substantial employment.
He also noted that job creation is the most effective way to boost the country’s GDP. Increased employment leads to higher incomes, greater consumption, and economic growth. He believes that the support given to startups today will yield significant economic benefits in the next five to ten years.
Swati Bhargava, co-founder of CashKaro and EarnKaro, also lauded the initiative. She appreciated that the Chief Minister and ministers took the time on a Sunday to meet with numerous startup founders and listen to their suggestions.
Bhargava pointed out that this indicates the government’s desire to involve the industry in the policy-making process. When real business owners and entrepreneurs participate in policy formulation, the resulting policies tend to be more practical and effective.
