New Delhi, June 18: In a significant initiative ahead of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) scheduled for June 21, the Delhi government has taken unprecedented steps to ensure the comfort of not just the candidates but also their accompanying parents.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that, for the first time, cooling zones will be established at exam centers. These zones will provide seating arrangements, clean drinking water, and refreshments like lemonade to enhance the experience for parents and guardians waiting outside.
A total of 97 exam centers have been set up in Delhi, comprising 69 government schools and 28 central schools. The district administration will create special cooling zones around these centers, allowing parents to sit, relax, and escape the heat while their children take the exam.
Every year, millions of families arrive at exam centers with dreams for their children’s futures. While candidates are inside taking the test, their parents often endure hours of waiting in the sun, facing discomfort and concern. Recognizing this human aspect, the Delhi government has decided to alleviate the challenges parents face on exam day.
CM Rekha Gupta noted that previously, parents would seek shade under trees, sit in parks, or wander through nearby markets, often standing for long periods in the sweltering heat. This situation will change, as comfortable waiting arrangements will now be available outside the exam centers. The Divisional Commissioner (DM) has instructed relevant officials to ensure the establishment of cooling zones at all exam centers. These zones will offer seating, clean drinking water, lemonade, ORS, tea, and first aid facilities to ensure parents do not face any difficulties.
The government’s aim is not only to conduct the exam successfully but also to enhance the experience of everyone involved. When parents feel at ease, it positively impacts the students, allowing them to approach the exam with greater confidence. The Delhi government prioritizes education and the future of youth, and it is their duty to provide every possible support to candidates and their families during important exams like NEET. This initiative symbolizes respect for the millions of parents who stand by their children at every step to help realize their dreams.
The Chief Minister expressed hope that this initiative would inspire other states to prioritize parental comfort during exams in the future. She extended her best wishes to all candidates, stating that the entire city is praying for their bright futures.
Additionally, the Chief Minister revealed that the Delhi government is not limited to exam centers. To provide relief from the intense heat, extensive arrangements have already been made across the capital. This includes the establishment of 85 shade structures, operation of 15 cooling zones, and deployment of 13 mobile relief vans (Mobile Heat Relief Units) that are continuously touring various areas to assist people in coping with the heat.
