Delhi Government Intensifies Efforts to Combat Air Pollution

Delhis government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, enhances measures to tackle air pollution with new monitoring and EV charging stations.

New Delhi, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : The Delhi government is ramping up its efforts to address the pressing issue of air pollution. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Central Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, and Delhi’s Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, recently inspected the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) for pollution control.

During the visit, officials provided updates on real-time monitoring and air quality management systems. Chief Minister Gupta inaugurated five public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in collaboration with Minister Yadav. Additionally, 13 new Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations were launched to enhance the effectiveness of pollution monitoring and improve the accuracy of air quality data.

In remarks to the media, Gupta emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and with the support of Minister Yadav, the Delhi government is consistently working to combat pollution. She noted that the ICCC will facilitate real-time monitoring of pollution conditions, which is essential for taking necessary actions.

Minister Yadav highlighted that the proposal for the ICCC was presented during a meeting concerning the National Capital Region (NCR). He congratulated Gupta for launching the center ahead of schedule. Yadav stressed the importance of obtaining accurate air quality index data, directing NCR officials to install monitoring equipment every five kilometers for precise information.

He also called for collective responsibility in addressing the air pollution crisis in Delhi, urging citizens to cooperate with the government’s initiatives. Furthermore, Yadav addressed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, clarifying that it is not a new process but follows comprehensive guidelines from the Election Commission.

Targeting the opposition, he remarked that after the Lok Sabha elections, opposition leaders had demanded the removal of incorrect names from the voter list, yet now they question the process of its correction. He insisted that objecting to the voter list rectification is unwarranted.

Minister of State Harsh Malhotra thanked Delhi’s residents for electing a government focused on the city’s development from day one. He criticized previous administrations for blaming neighboring states like Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh instead of taking decisive action against pollution.

Malhotra noted that under Chief Minister Gupta’s leadership, the government has begun addressing issues like waterlogging and pollution, with the ICCC being a significant step in that direction.
