Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to Initiate Unique Pre-Budget Ceremony

New Delhi, March 22: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will commence the budget session with a traditional pre-budget ceremony known as ‘Kheer Rasam’ on Monday, a day before presenting the Delhi Budget for 2025-26.

An official confirmed this information. CM Gupta will present the budget on March 24 for the second consecutive year. Last year, she introduced the ‘Kheer Rasam’ tradition, where a traditional Indian dessert is prepared and offered to Lord Ram before being distributed among all participants involved in the budget preparation and the public. This ceremony symbolizes a unique beginning to the financial proceedings in the assembly.

In preparation for the 2025-26 budget, the Chief Minister held several consultation meetings with gig workers, farmers, rural representatives, and labor groups at the Delhi Secretariat.

While meeting with each group separately, she emphasized, “Public participation is the greatest strength of a developed Delhi. The government’s aim is to present a budget that reflects the aspirations of every segment.”

An official statement noted that participants shared their experiences and expressed their concerns, suggestions, and expectations. The Chief Minister engaged directly with attendees, listened attentively to their inputs, and assured them that their suggestions would receive appropriate priority in the upcoming budget.

She also indicated plans to announce several initiatives for women and girls in the budget for 2026-27, which will be presented in the assembly on March 24.

While participating in the ‘Nari Utsav’ event at the Nirmal Chhaya Complex, she discussed her government’s plans to include women-centric schemes in the budget, honoring the power and contributions of women in nation-building.

She remarked that women are playing a leading role in all sectors through their dedication, selfless service, and commitment, driving the country towards the goal of a developed India by 2047.
