New Delhi, August 8: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta emphasized the need for accountability in government spending on Friday. He issued essential directives to the departments of the Delhi government, urging them to pay attention to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) comments on last year’s Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. Gupta stressed that the departments must submit their ‘Action Taken Notes’ within the stipulated time frame.
On the first day of the sixth session of the Eighth Delhi Assembly, Speaker Gupta stated, “Since last year, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has been continuously reviewing the CAG reports that were not presented before the house during previous governments.”
He added, “The committee has now submitted its report on the CAG reports presented last year.”
“I am confident that the review of this year’s CAG reports will also be completed by the end of the year. I have instructed the Assembly Secretariat to send these reports to the relevant departments to expedite the submission of ‘Action Taken Notes’.”
The Speaker further remarked, “As I have mentioned before, CAG’s comments are based on the investigation of specific cases. Therefore, the concerned departments should take these comments as a warning and implement concrete measures to prevent such deficiencies in the future, ensuring the optimal use of the government’s limited resources.”
He noted that these reports are not merely a list of shortcomings but also provide a pathway for improvement. “I urge all departments to take these findings seriously, submit their ‘Action Taken Notes’ within the designated time, and implement necessary corrective actions so that every rupee of public money is utilized solely for its intended purpose.”
Earlier on Friday, the sixth session of the Eighth Delhi Assembly commenced. The monsoon session is expected to include at least two more meetings on August 10 and 11.
