Eknath Shinde Meets PM Modi, Seeks Major Relief for Maharashtras Drought-Stricken Farmers

New Delhi, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on October 5 to address the severe drought conditions affecting the state. The discussion lasted about an hour, focusing on the current drought situation and potential measures to alleviate its impact.

After the meeting, Shinde expressed optimism that the central government would provide significant financial assistance to Maharashtra for drought relief. He emphasized that the government will not abandon farmers during this challenging time, assuring that their Diwali celebrations would not be overshadowed by hardship.

Shinde noted that Modi took a serious interest in the drought’s severity, inquiring about water availability, agricultural conditions, and livestock feed supplies. He informed the Prime Minister that the state cabinet had reached out to farmers in affected areas to offer mental support.

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to helping farmers through the Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, which offers an annual financial aid of ₹6,000, complemented by an additional ₹6,000 from the state’s Namo Shetkari Mahasamman Nidhi scheme. This totals ₹12,000 in yearly support for farmers. He mentioned that the government had previously assisted farmers impacted by excessive rainfall.

Shinde criticized the opposition, claiming they have resorted to protests and accusations against the Prime Minister and Home Minister, lacking substantive political initiatives. He asserted that the government would spare no effort in supporting farmers facing crises.

Regarding upcoming elections, Shinde stated that discussions were held in the Mahayuti coordination committee about nominating Mangesh Chivte from the Pune Teachers’ Constituency, with the party having already issued him an AB form to file his nomination.

He added that the nomination process is currently underway, followed by a period for withdrawal, during which various political developments are expected. Shinde reiterated that solutions to Maharashtra’s issues would be addressed within the state.

On the topic of cabinet expansion, Shinde acknowledged that Prime Minister Modi, as the leading figure of the NDA, holds the authority to make decisions regarding such matters, and that appropriate actions would be taken at the right time.
