New Delhi, April 1: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta participated in a religious event organized by the Shri Digambar Jain Mahasabha in Rohini on Tuesday. He emphasized the importance of non-violence and compassion towards all living beings.
Gupta stated, “Those who practice compassion towards all beings truly walk the path shown by Lord Mahavir and his eternal principles.” The event, held on the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, was marked by a deep spiritual atmosphere and a collective call for global peace.
According to a statement released by his constituency office, Gupta received blessings from revered Jain saints during the ceremony and was formally honored for his dedicated service to the citizens of Delhi.
He highlighted the ancient wisdom of the 24th Tirthankara, transforming it into a framework for modern governance and social harmony. Gupta asserted that Mahavir Jayanti is not merely a festival but a “divine call for self-reflection and soul-searching.”
The Speaker remarked that Lord Mahavir demonstrated that true bravery lies not in the edge of a sword but in conquering one’s mind; in overcoming anger, greed, and ego. He redefined ‘Ahimsa Paramo Dharma’ by stating that non-violence is not cowardice but the pinnacle of courage.
Gupta shed light on the principle of ‘Anekantavada’ (the multiplicity of viewpoints), describing it as a “healing balm” for today’s fragmented society. He noted, “My truth is not the complete truth; there is light in your truth as well.”
He also emphasized the principle of ‘Aparigraha’ (non-possessiveness), stating that Lord Mahavir had already pointed out solutions to the global climate crisis centuries ago by teaching us not to exploit nature or hoard unnecessarily.
Gupta urged the citizens of Delhi to ensure that the celebration of Mahavir Jayanti is meaningful by not limiting it to processions but by incorporating its principles into their lives.
As the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, he formally pledged to ensure that Lord Mahavir’s ideals reach every citizen and to promote a culture of compassion throughout the capital. The event concluded with Gupta participating in traditional rituals and engaging with community leaders, reaffirming his commitment to the welfare and spiritual heritage of Delhi.
