Peshawar, February 16: A devastating bomb blast has once again shaken Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The explosion occurred near the Miryan police station in Bannu district on Monday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuring 17 others, according to local media reports citing police sources.

According to a police statement, the blast was caused by a time bomb attached to a motorcycle. Tragically, among the deceased was a child.

Prominent Pakistani media outlet Dawn reported that the explosion took place near shops located in front of the police station. Fortunately, no police personnel were harmed, but local civilians were severely affected. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.

Muhammad Noman Khattab, a spokesperson for the Medical Teaching Institution (MTI), stated that the victims were transported to the state hospital and Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital.

Rescue officials confirmed that emergency teams arrived at the scene promptly, transporting the deceased and injured to nearby hospitals.

Following the incident, a large contingent of Bannu police, along with the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and Quick Response Force (QRF), arrived at the location.

The police statement indicated that law enforcement and security forces cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation. Evidence is being collected, and an investigation has commenced. The BDS team also assisted in clearing the blast site to mitigate any potential threats effectively.

Meanwhile, Bannu’s Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sajjad Khan, visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of the injured.

According to the media house Ham, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the attack strongly. In a statement released from the Governor’s House, he expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.

The Governor expressed solidarity with the victims’ families and denounced the perpetrators, labeling them as enemies of humanity and a threat to the peace and stability of the region.

In a related incident, a bridge on the main road in the Kot Hakim area was destroyed by explosives late Sunday night. This destruction has disrupted local transportation and movement in the area.

Bannu district has witnessed a series of deadly incidents in recent months. In January, an explosion in the Domel area injured two boys, one of whom died two weeks later. Earlier that month, Fida Muhammad Khan Wazir, the former Nazim of Domel, was injured in a bomb blast outside his office.
