Ranchi, March 13: The historic Dalton Ganj Railway Station in Palamu district, Jharkhand, has officially been renamed Medininagar Railway Station. This decision was approved during a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, following consent from the central government.
With this move, the process of renaming the city to Medininagar, initiated nearly two decades ago, has now extended to the railway station. Originally named Dalton Ganj in the early 1860s after Colonel Edward Tuite Dalton, a British commissioner and anthropologist, the city underwent a name change in 2004 to honor the popular ruler of the historical Khero dynasty, Medini Rai.
Now, after approximately 22 years, the railway station’s name has been aligned with the city’s designation. In addition to this decision, the cabinet approved a total of 40 proposals during the meeting.
In another significant decision, new regulations were approved to address disputes related to state employees’ service and retirement. This framework establishes deadlines for resolving service-related issues and outlines the responsibilities of the relevant authorities.
If an employee is dissatisfied with a decision made at a lower level, provisions have been made for them to present their case to an appellate authority. The government believes this regulation will facilitate the prompt and transparent resolution of service disputes. Furthermore, the cabinet decided to expand the scope of the Manjari Munda Scholarship Scheme.
Now, female students studying in technical colleges outside Jharkhand will also benefit from this scheme, which was previously limited to those attending colleges affiliated with Jharkhand Technical University. The meeting also decided to construct a proposed 528-bed hostel for female students of Ranchi Women’s College at the Kalyan Parishad campus in Morhabadi instead of the college premises.
Additionally, the proposal to provide medical facilities to the Chief Minister, ministers, legislators, and former legislators on par with All India Service officers was approved. Under this arrangement, the state government will reimburse the expenses incurred for their treatment.
