Jharkhand Prepares for Special Intensive Revision of Voter List

Ranchi, March 13: The preparation for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Jharkhand has intensified. The Chief Electoral Officer, K. Ravi Kumar, held a meeting on Thursday with representatives from recognized political parties to share detailed information about the SIR process.

He explained that a door-to-door verification will be conducted to ensure the voter list is completely error-free. The mapping of voters against the previous comprehensive revision list has already begun, ensuring that no eligible citizen is left out of the voter list.

The Chief Electoral Officer emphasized that the most crucial aspect of this SIR campaign will be the door-to-door outreach by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). These officers will not only distribute enumeration forms and collect them back but will also place a special sticker outside each household. This sticker will display the house number along with the name and mobile number of the respective BLO. The Election Commission’s initiative aims to prevent citizens from facing difficulties related to the voter list and to facilitate direct contact with their BLOs.

K. Ravi Kumar clarified that the goal is to create a transparent and accurate voter list. During the meeting, he urged political parties to actively cooperate. He requested that all parties expedite the appointment of booth-level agents at polling stations to enhance coordination with BLOs during the SIR process. Additionally, he stressed the importance of training agents to eliminate any confusion while working at the grassroots level.

The Commission clarified that this time, the lists of absent, shifted, deceased, and duplicate voters will be verified by agents of political parties through BLOs before being made public. This will aid in the removal of fraudulent voter names. The meeting also discussed the draft publication, notification, and hearing processes.
