Hubli, April 7: Amid speculation about his potential appointment as Chief Minister of Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has accused the central government of neglecting South India. He pointed out that two ships carrying fuel from Gulf countries have docked in Gujarat instead of the ports in Mangalore or Kerala.
At a media interaction at Hubli Airport, Shivakumar stated that time will clarify the situation regarding his future role. He emphasized that only statements from the Chief Minister and himself regarding leadership changes are relevant, dismissing comments from others as insignificant.
When asked about Home Minister Parameshwara’s claim that Siddaramaiah will remain Chief Minister until 2028, Shivakumar responded, “I do not react to others’ statements.”
Regarding the possibility of discussing leadership changes post-elections, he remarked that there is no need to make it an issue.
On the upcoming by-elections in Davanagere South and Bagalkot, he expressed confidence, stating, “I have visited both constituencies, and the campaigning has gone well. We will win in both areas as people are satisfied with our government’s initiatives.”
Shivakumar criticized the BJP for remaining silent on the rising inflation and noted that the central government has not announced any relief measures. He mentioned that their five guarantee schemes have provided some assistance to the public, and he is confident of victory in both constituencies without any issues.
In response to Union Minister Pralhad Joshi’s suggestion of using petrol as an alternative to cooking gas, Shivakumar insisted that Joshi should prioritize the interests of Karnataka. He reiterated that the central government is focusing solely on North India while neglecting the needs of South India.
