Cyber Fraud Targets Pensioners in Bhopal Railway Division

Bhopal, February 10: Pensioners in the Bhopal railway division of Madhya Pradesh are increasingly becoming targets of cyber fraud. The railway authorities have urged all pensioners to remain vigilant and alert. Reports indicate a rise in cybercriminal activities within the state, with the accounts department of the West Central Railway in Bhopal receiving information about some unscrupulous individuals misusing the names of railway officials. These fraudsters are sending fake SMS messages, WhatsApp texts, and making phone calls that are entirely misleading and inappropriate.

Through these fraudulent messages and calls, pensioners are being asked for personal information, bank account details, OTPs, and passwords under the pretext of pension updates, additional benefits, or KYC verification. Such practices fall squarely within the realm of fraud.

Saurabh Kataria, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, clarified that any official information related to the railway will only be communicated through authorized railway websites, emails from the railnet.gov.in domain, or authentic written letters. No railway official or employee will ever request personal or financial information via phone, SMS, or WhatsApp.

The accounts department has appealed to pensioners not to trust any suspicious calls, messages, or links, and to refrain from sharing any personal information. They should avoid clicking on unknown links and never disclose OTPs, passwords, or bank-related details to anyone.

The railway administration has also advised that if any pensioner receives such a suspicious message or call, they should immediately report it to the cyber cell, the nearest police station, or the Railway Protection Force. This will allow for timely action to be taken and help effectively curb fraudulent incidents. The Railway Pensioners Association has also been urged to raise awareness among its members regarding cyber fraud. The railway administration has called upon pensioners to stay alert and safe.
