Ranchi, June 14: Ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Jharkhand, CPI(ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya has launched a strong attack on the central government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He raised concerns over rising inflation, unemployment, the education system, and alleged discrepancies in the voter list during a press conference following a state committee meeting.
Bhattacharya stated that the Rajya Sabha elections pose a significant challenge for Jharkhand. He mentioned that the Indian Alliance has nominated two candidates for the elections and has sufficient legislators whose votes are in favor of the alliance. Despite this, he accused the BJP of attempting political sabotage by promoting businessman Parimal Natuwani.
Referring to a recent meeting of the Indian Alliance, Bhattacharya emphasized the need to strengthen mutual respect, trust, and collective leadership among the coalition parties. He asserted that the BJP is trying to weaken the alliance through the Rajya Sabha elections, but the legislators remain united, and the BJP’s strategy will not succeed.
He also highlighted widespread dissatisfaction among youth regarding the examination system, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Bhattacharya criticized the agencies responsible for conducting exams, claiming they have consistently failed, leading to disruptions in the examination process. He noted that this issue is fueling a growing movement among the youth.
On inflation, Bhattacharya accused the central government of blaming the economic crisis on international wars. He questioned the government’s support for Israel if wars are indeed the cause of the crisis. He alleged that India’s foreign policy has failed, jeopardizing the safety of the country’s sailors and citizens. The depreciating rupee, rising fuel prices, and inflation are results of years of policy failures, he stated.
Bhattacharya announced the “Reduce Prices, Provide Livable Wages” campaign, which will run from June 15 to July 15 in rural areas, with a nationwide movement planned for August. He also expressed serious concerns over alleged irregularities in the voter list, claiming that around 140,000 voters in Jharkhand are set to have their names removed based on various technical and so-called ‘logical discrepancies.’
He accused the BJP of implementing similar processes in West Bengal, causing difficulties for millions of voters. Protecting the right to vote in a democracy has become a significant challenge, he asserted. Furthermore, he accused the BJP of undermining multi-party democracy in the country, stating that the party aims not only to gain power but also to eliminate opposition parties and establish a one-party system. To safeguard democracy and the constitution, parties with diverse ideologies must unite and fight together.
