CPI(M) Seeks Clarity from Congress Ahead of India Block Meeting

New Delhi, June 7: Ahead of the India Block meeting scheduled for June 8, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has expressed its dissatisfaction by sending a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge regarding allegations made during the Kerala Assembly elections.

Party General Secretary MA Baby stated that these allegations raise questions about the unity and purpose of the India Block, urging Congress leadership to clarify its stance on the matter.

In the letter, MA Baby mentioned that he learned about the India Block meeting through Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal. He referred to the campaign run by Congress during the Kerala Assembly elections, which accused CPI(M) of having an alleged understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He pointed out that during the election campaign, Congress leaders repeatedly claimed that there was a secret deal between CPI(M) and BJP. Furthermore, former Chief Minister and CPI(M) Politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan was also accused of colluding with the Prime Minister. Congress leaders questioned why the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had not interrogated or arrested Vijayan.

The letter emphasized that these allegations were not mere general statements made during the election but formed the core of Congress’s entire election campaign. Top Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, repeatedly reiterated these claims.

MA Baby reminded that the India Block was formed to politically combat the BJP, and CPI(M) has sincerely contributed to strengthening this platform since the Patna meeting in 2023. Therefore, labeling CPI(M) as an ally of the BJP is extremely serious and unacceptable.

He also highlighted that hundreds of CPI(M) workers have sacrificed in the struggle against the RSS-BJP in Kerala. Over the past decade of Left Democratic Front (LDF) governance, the state has not witnessed any communal riots, which is a testament to the party’s secular commitment.

However, at the end of the letter, CPI(M) clarified that it will continue to engage in a united struggle against the central government alongside the India Block and other opposition parties.
