CPI Welcomes Tamil Nadu CM Vijays Engagement with Political Leaders

Chennai, May 12: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has expressed its support for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s decision to meet with senior political leaders from various parties. This initiative is seen as the beginning of a “new political culture” in the state.

In a statement, CPI State Secretary R. Mutharasan Veerapandian praised Vijay for personally engaging with senior leaders shortly after taking office. He emphasized that this move reflects an effort to revive the tradition of political dialogue and mutual respect in Tamil Nadu.

Veerapandian noted that by meeting leaders from different political parties, Vijay has initiated a new political culture in the state. Before assuming office, Vijay had also met with leaders from CPI and CPI-M to thank them for their support.

After taking office, the leader of the Tamilaga Vetrikuzhagam (TVK) maintained contact with senior leaders, including K. Veeramani of the Dravidar Kazhagam, his predecessor and DMK President M.K. Stalin, and Vaiko, the General Secretary of MDMK.

The CPI leader pointed out that recent years have seen a political climate in Tamil Nadu where ruling and opposition parties rarely engage in constructive dialogue. He believes that Vijay’s initiative could help revive the state’s democratic and political traditions.

Just a day after taking the oath of office, Vijay visited Stalin’s residence in Alwarpet following the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected legislators in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He also met with MDMK leader Vaiko, PMK President Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, and Naam Tamilar Katchi’s chief coordinator Seeman at their respective residences.

The leaders welcomed Vijay and shared their best wishes and suggestions for the newly formed government. These meetings hold political significance, especially after the fragmented mandate in the 234-member Assembly elections that brought the TVK government to power. The TVK emerged as the largest party in the elections and later secured support from several parties, paving the way for Vijay’s first term as Chief Minister.
