New Delhi, February 24: Uday Bhanu Chib, the National President of the Indian Youth Congress, appeared in a Delhi court on Tuesday. Following the hearing, the court reserved its decision, stating that the order would be announced at 12:30 PM. Tight security measures were implemented in the court premises during this time.

During the hearing, the Delhi Police requested a seven-day police custody for Chib. They argued that he was allegedly involved in a conspiracy and had provided assistance to the protesters.

According to the Delhi Police, individuals from various parts of the country participated in the protest, necessitating the accused’s transportation to different locations for fact-finding. This formed the basis for their request for an extended interrogation period.

The police attorney informed the court that Chib was monitoring activities related to the protest. He claimed that those who arrived at Mandapam did so under Chib’s instructions and were in constant contact with him.

The police noted that a significant number of foreign delegates were present at the time, and there were attempts to damage India’s image on the global stage. They argued that serious issues such as national security, sovereignty, and unity were at stake in this matter.

In contrast, Chib’s lawyer strongly opposed the request for police custody. He stated in court that his client had always cooperated with the investigation. The lawyer deemed the arrest unnecessary, arguing that requesting police custody solely for the recovery of T-shirts was absurd.

He also mentioned that the protesters were unarmed and conducting a peaceful demonstration. The defense pointed out that seven to eight T-shirts had already been recovered, and since T-shirts can be printed anywhere, the argument for a factory-wide investigation was unfounded.

It is noteworthy that the Delhi Police had taken Uday Bhanu Chib into custody on Tuesday morning after questioning him and formally arresting him.
