Court Delays Hearing in Defamation Case Against Saurabh Bhardwaj

New Delhi, June 9: The hearing for the defamation case filed by BJP leader Pravesh Verma against Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bhardwaj took place at Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday.

During the proceedings, Pravesh Verma’s lawyer requested additional time for him to present his statement, citing his busy schedule as the reason for his absence on the scheduled date.

The court accepted the request and set the next hearing for July 4, when Pravesh Verma’s statement will be recorded.

Saurabh Bhardwaj, the Delhi state president of the Aam Aadmi Party, had previously accused Pravesh Verma on the social media platform X of misusing his position within the ‘S.S. Mota Singh School Trust’ to appoint close associates. Bhardwaj claimed that the trust holds assets worth approximately ₹500 crore.

In response to these allegations, Pravesh Verma has labeled them as false, baseless, and defamatory, leading him to file a criminal defamation complaint against Bhardwaj.

Additionally, a civil defamation case related to this matter is ongoing. The Delhi High Court has issued a summons to Saurabh Bhardwaj in response to the civil defamation petition filed by Pravesh Verma, instructing him to submit a written response and affidavit within 30 days.

In the civil defamation case, Pravesh Verma is seeking ₹5 crore in damages from Saurabh Bhardwaj. The case is currently pending in court.

Pravesh Verma’s petition asserts that Saurabh Bhardwaj shared false, malicious, and highly derogatory posts and videos on the social media platform X, alleging that he misused his ministerial position to appoint an associate as a trustee in the private school trust.
