Couple Turns to Crime After Cafe Closure, Arrested in Noida

Noida, September 2: A couple, along with a third accomplice, has been arrested by Noida police after resorting to theft to fulfill their expensive hobbies following the closure of their cafe business. The Sector-113 police, aided by local intelligence and electronic surveillance, apprehended the trio near a cremation ground in Sector-123. Among the arrested is a woman identified as Sonali.

According to police reports, Sonali led the gang and played a crucial role in scouting abandoned houses. The arrested individuals have been identified as Kailash alias Diwakar (30), Irfan alias Imran (32), and Sonali (24). Kailash and Sonali were living together. During questioning, it was revealed that the suspects previously operated a cafe in Ghaziabad, which later closed due to financial losses. Faced with economic hardship, they turned to theft to support their lavish lifestyles.

The police stated that the gang would scout high-rise societies and homes. Members would wear caps and masks to conceal their identities while surveying the area. They would check which flats or houses were unoccupied and whether anyone was present. After identifying a target, they would arrive by car and break into the vacant properties. Once inside, they stole gold and silver jewelry, cash, mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and other valuables.

Police reports indicate that Sonali led the reconnaissance efforts, while Kailash and Irfan assisted her in executing the thefts. The investigation revealed that the gang committed their crimes during the day and spent their evenings partying at restaurants and bars. After their cafe business failed, the couple struggled to maintain their expensive tastes, prompting them to use the stolen money for their expenses and leisure activities.

The Sector-113 police recovered stolen yellow and white metal jewelry, five laptops, two tablets, six mobile phones, and 350,000 rupees in cash from the suspects. Additionally, the vehicle used in the thefts was seized, along with a fake license plate. The five laptops were linked to theft cases registered at Sector-113 and Sector-49 police stations, while two tablets were connected to a case at Sector-49.

Authorities are now gathering information regarding the other recovered items to determine their connection to various theft incidents. The three arrested individuals have multiple cases registered against them for theft in Noida and Mathura. Kailash alias Diwakar has pending cases at Phase-2, Sector-49, Govind Nagar Mathura, and Sector-113 police stations.

Similarly, Irfan alias Imran and Sonali also face theft-related charges at Sector-49, Govind Nagar Mathura, and Sector-113. Police are continuing their investigation to uncover the extent of the gang’s criminal activities in Noida and other areas of NCR.
