New Delhi, August 3: The counting of votes for the Datia Assembly by-election in Madhya Pradesh is taking place today. The process commenced with the counting of postal ballots. A total of 21 counting centers have been set up for this purpose.
Voting for the Datia by-election occurred on July 30, with a voter turnout of 71.44%. The main contest is between Ashutosh Tiwari from the BJP and Ghanshyam Singh from Congress, with a triangular contest including Damodar Yadav from the Aam Aadmi Party. The counting is being conducted at the Polytechnic College.
District Election Officer Swapnil Wankhede stated that the counting began at 8 AM today, starting with postal ballots. The counting of votes from Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will commence at 8:30 AM. Of the 21 counting centers, 20 are designated for EVM votes, while one is for postal ballots.
Each counting center is staffed by three officials who will carry out the counting in accordance with the Election Commission’s protocols. The District Election Officer has instructed all relevant officials to ensure strict adherence to the Election Commission’s guidelines at every stage of the counting process, maintaining transparency, fairness, and a peaceful environment throughout.
