Controversy Erupts Over Rahul Gandhis Remarks on PM Modi

New Delhi, May 20: The political landscape intensified on Wednesday following controversial remarks made by Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP swiftly condemned Gandhi’s statement, accusing him of perpetuating a tradition of betrayal. National spokesperson Ajay Alok, Odisha Minister Nityanand Gond, and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak targeted Gandhi, while PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti came to his defense.

Ajay Alok stated that there is nothing wrong with Gandhi’s comments, attributing them to the environment in which he was raised. He argued that Gandhi’s family, which has produced several Prime Ministers, views their actions as achievements rather than acts of betrayal. Thus, calling the Prime Minister a traitor does not seem to affect him.

Alok highlighted historical grievances, noting that Jawaharlal Nehru imposed Article 370 in Kashmir and allowed Pakistan to control 80% of the waters of the Jhelum and Chenab rivers. He criticized Nehru for not allowing the Indian Air Force to retaliate against China during the 1962 war and for recognizing China over Tibet. Despite these actions, Nehru is not labeled a traitor.

He further mentioned that Indira Gandhi discussed sharing nuclear details with Pakistan in Parliament and imposed the Emergency, which led to the humiliation of Sikh sentiments during Operation Blue Star. The subsequent anti-Sikh riots in 1984, which resulted in the deaths of over 10,000 Sikhs, were also framed as achievements rather than betrayals.

Alok continued by discussing Rajiv Gandhi’s involvement in the Bofors scandal and his contradictory actions regarding the LTTE. He claimed that Sonia Gandhi acted as a ‘super Prime Minister’ and facilitated a deal with China. During the UPA’s tenure, 78 terrorists were released in 2010, who later executed major attacks, yet these actions are not considered treasonous.

He urged the public, especially Congress supporters, to stop viewing such leaders as representatives, labeling them as a cancer to the nation.

Minister Nityanand Gond asserted that the public is aware of what PM Modi is doing for the country, noting improvements in the economy and India’s growing stature on the global stage. He warned that if individuals like Rahul Gandhi remain in Congress, the nation will struggle to progress.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak suggested that Gandhi should study Indian culture. In contrast, Mehbooba Mufti remarked that since 2014, the BJP has labeled everyone as traitors, questioning the uproar over Gandhi’s comments. She argued that this rhetoric has been sown by the BJP and is now bearing fruit.
