Mumbai, April 28: The debate surrounding the potential renaming of the renowned King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital in Mumbai has intensified, sparking political discussions. Minister Uday Sawant stated on Tuesday that a thorough investigation should precede any decision regarding the name change.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Sawant remarked, “I am not certain if KEM Hospital’s name will be changed. It would be prudent to gather all necessary information before discussing this matter further.”
In a separate context, he highlighted the promotion of Maharashtra’s MSMEs, stating, “The summit has been highly beneficial for Maharashtra’s MSMEs. We signed 20 MOUs, with 10 to 15 crore worth of agreements. This is just the beginning, as we have similar programs planned in Nagpur, Pune, and Kolhapur, which will lead to more MOUs. This will significantly support MSMEs.”
Regarding the mandatory use of the Marathi language, Uday Sawant emphasized, “The term ‘strength’—if we express our emotions, it is a positive thing. Anyone who becomes a district officer, SP, or CO must pass a Marathi exam. Therefore, every individual residing in Maharashtra should know Marathi.”
NCP-SP leader and spokesperson Mahesh Tapase responded sharply to the proposal to change the name of KEM Hospital. He stated, “I would argue that the focus should be on improving facilities. Changing the name is easy, but enhancing services and making them more accessible requires effort.”
Commenting on an incident in Mira Road’s Naya Nagar, Mahesh Tapase asserted, “Mumbai, Maharashtra, and India will not tolerate any form of communalism or terrorist attacks. Any necessary actions by the administration will be executed with full rigor.”
In response to Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement about maintaining armed forces in Bengal for 60 days post-elections, Mahesh Tapase said, “I have read the Home Minister’s statement. It is clear what message he intends to convey to the people of Bengal.”
