Contradictions in CCTV Footage and Police Timeline in Patna NEET Student Death Case

Patna, February 2: New CCTV footage has raised serious questions about the police timeline and investigation methods in the Patna NEET student death case. The footage, taken from Shambhu Girls Hostel, shows a man carrying an unconscious NEET aspirant student out of the hostel amid chaos, contradicting earlier police statements.

The 10 minute 54 second clip captures frantic scenes inside the hostel, with female students running and looking worried. Sources say this was recorded while the student was being taken to the hospital. The girl, from Jehanabad district, was preparing for the NEET medical entrance exam and was found unconscious in her room. She later died during treatment on January 11 at a private hospital.

Initially, police including SHO Roshni Kumari and senior officials denied rape allegations citing lack of evidence. But the CCTV footage challenges their earlier claim that the student was taken to the hospital around 2 pm on January 6. Instead, activity outside her room begins at 3:50 pm, and she is seen being carried out at 4:01 pm. The hostel gate opens at 3:58 pm, revealing a nearly two-hour discrepancy with the official timeline.

The footage also disputes police claims that the hostel room door was broken open. It shows a girl climbing a table to open the door from the top, indicating no forced entry. This raises further questions about whether the room was locked from inside or outside, and who knew about the locking mechanism. No forensic examination of the door’s lock or handle has been reported so far.

Criticism has also come for the police response delay. SHO Roshni Kumari reportedly visited the hostel three days after the incident when the crime scene might have been disturbed. Allegations include failure to seal the room, lack of entry logs, and delayed seizure of the victim’s clothes, which are crucial evidence in sexual assault cases. Instead of visiting the scene on the first day, a driver was allegedly sent.

Concerns have been raised about reliance on the Prabhat hospital report, lack of immediate treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital, and the early theory of sleeping pills before the postmortem was complete. The case was later transferred to AIIMS for further investigation.

The CCTV also shows several people entering the room after it was opened—some bringing water and blankets, others giving instructions—but no one is seen calling police or ambulance immediately despite the student’s unconscious state.

This crucial CCTV clip is now seen as a silent witness that challenges both individual actions and the credibility of the investigation. As the case progresses, the footage has intensified demands for accountability, transparency, and an independent scientific probe. Public attention remains focused on whether authorities will provide clear answers to the many questions raised by the visuals.
