Bhopal, May 11: Senior Congress leader Ajay Singh launched a strong critique of the Madhya Pradesh government on Sunday, referencing the latest report from NITI Aayog that highlights the declining state of education in the region.
Speaking in Bhopal, Singh asserted that the findings of the report undermine Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s claims of ‘Abhyudaya Madhya Pradesh.’ He described the situation as alarming, noting that nearly 13,500 schools in Madhya Pradesh operate without electricity, leaving classrooms in complete darkness even in the era of Digital India.
Singh also expressed concern over the lack of basic facilities in schools, revealing that around 2,000 institutions lack toilets for female students. He emphasized that this situation starkly contrasts with the government’s slogans like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ and ‘Nari Vandana.’
Questioning the state government’s priorities, Singh asked how young girls could be expected to continue their education amid such inadequate facilities. He pointed out that there is a significant shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff in the state, with over 52,000 vacancies across schools, including more than 45,000 teaching positions in primary schools.
Additionally, he alleged that over 7,000 schools in Madhya Pradesh are functioning with just one teacher. Singh demanded accountability from the government, questioning where the substantial funds allocated for education are being spent when there is a persistent shortage of staff and resources in schools.
He claimed that the report also revealed that approximately 3.3 million children have dropped out of primary education, attributing this to poor infrastructure and insufficient facilities.
