Congress Protests Against Government in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Over Farmers Issues

Bhopal, July 20: On the first day of the monsoon session in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Congress legislators staged a vigorous protest regarding farmers’ issues. They donned masks of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while questioning the government on the plight of farmers. Under the leadership of Opposition Leader Umang Singhar, Congress members targeted the government over agricultural concerns within the assembly premises.

The Congress party alleges a deepening fertilizer crisis, irregularities in government procurement, and inadequate compensation for farmers. During the symbolic protest, Congress legislators, wearing masks of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and State Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kansana, vocally condemned the government’s anti-farmer policies. Singhar posed questions to the masked legislators about the challenges faced by farmers.

Umang Singhar stated that farmers in the state are enduring a severe crisis, while the government remains entangled in formalities instead of seeking solutions. He criticized both Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Mohan Yadav for merely shuffling files, stating that farmers are not receiving timely access to fertilizers or seeds.

He further accused Chief Minister Mohan Yadav of being preoccupied with land acquisitions, while Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan focuses solely on praising the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, State Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kansana has failed to address farmers’ problems effectively. Singhar emphasized that farmers are forced to stand in long queues for fertilizers and are struggling to receive fair prices for their produce, as well as compensation for losses due to natural disasters. He lamented that the government is ignoring the suffering of farmers due to its arrogance in power.

The sixteenth session of the state assembly commenced on Monday and will continue until Friday, July 24. This five-day session is expected to address significant governmental matters. Politically, this monsoon session is deemed crucial as the state government plans to present a report on the Uniform Civil Code during this period.
