New Delhi, July 20: The Monsoon Session of Parliament commenced on Monday with intense shouting and chaos. Opposition MPs raised slogans as they entered the well of the House, leading to the adjournment of Lok Sabha proceedings until the afternoon.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla began the session by paying tribute to deceased MPs. Almost immediately, shouts erupted from the opposition benches, causing further disruption. Speaker Birla reiterated his appeal for maintaining order, stating, “Parliament is the highest platform of democracy, and everyone will be given time to speak.”
Despite repeated requests from the Speaker, the uproar from opposition members continued. Shortly thereafter, Speaker Birla announced the adjournment of Lok Sabha proceedings until the afternoon.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged all MPs to actively participate in the House. In his address before the session began, PM Modi noted that as the Monsoon Session starts, the country is gaining momentum, and the spirit of Parliament can inject new energy into that momentum. A positive spirit is essential for achieving national goals.
He stated, “Our House comprises many experienced MPs, regardless of their party affiliation. Their extensive experience is needed by the country and Parliament at this time. It is crucial for the Parliament to function today, engage in meaningful discussions, and collectively resolve to advance the nation.”
PM Modi further emphasized, “The aspirations of our youth demand that we move forward. It is essential that the voices of patriotism and national commitment find a proper platform in the House. They should raise their voices and guide the nation.”
He added, “Where there are facts and arguments, there is no room for chaos. If the arguments are strong, voices can be raised calmly. I hope that discussions in the House are enriched with reason and facts, allowing every voice to be heard and every idea to be respected; this is our role in Parliament.”
