Bhopal, July 12: The Congress party has officially announced its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Datia constituency of Madhya Pradesh. According to a press release from the All India Congress Committee (AICC), party president Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the candidacy of former MLA Ghanshyam Singh for the Datia assembly seat.
With this decision, the political atmosphere surrounding the Datia by-election has intensified. The Congress organization had previously submitted Ghanshyam Singh’s name as the sole candidate to the central leadership. The top leadership accepted the organization’s recommendation, finalizing his nomination.
Ghanshyam Singh is a well-known figure in Datia’s political landscape. He has previously represented the Datia assembly constituency and served as an MLA. In recent years, he shifted his political focus to the Sevda assembly constituency, where he continued his electoral pursuits.
However, during the 2023 Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, Ghanshyam Singh contested from the neighboring Sevda seat on a Congress ticket but faced defeat. Now, after a significant gap, the Congress has decided to field him again in the Datia assembly constituency.
Considering his recognition in the Datia region, his active role in the organization, and local dynamics, the Congress has placed its trust in him. Ghanshyam Singh is also believed to have ties to the Datia royal family, which enhances his social and political standing in the area.
The upcoming by-election in Datia is viewed as a prestige battle for both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Congress aims to strengthen its hold on this seat, while the BJP is preparing to exert all efforts to retain it.
Following the announcement of the candidate, electoral activities in Datia are expected to ramp up. In the coming days, senior leaders from both major parties may begin their campaigning and public meetings.
