Rival Punjab Congress Faction Meets Bhupesh Baghel, Insists on Removing Warring

Chandigarh, July 11: A highly anticipated meeting took place on Saturday between the rival faction of the Punjab Congress, led by former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, and party General Secretary Bhupesh Baghel.

After the meeting, MP Sukjinder Randhawa stated, “Sometimes the party needs to reverse certain decisions… We do not need compromise leaders.”

The rival faction, consisting of over 90 leaders, is demanding the removal of the state unit chief, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.

They provided specific examples of Warring’s actions that have allegedly caused divisions within the party. Randhawa clearly expressed to the media that the party needs leaders who can speak boldly and decisively.

In response to a media question, Baghel agreed that any compromising leader would not be effective. “If the BJP compromises with any leader, the party will not function. It is my responsibility to prevent that from happening,” he stated.

Meanwhile, after spending five days in Chandigarh, Baghel returned to Delhi, mentioning that he met with all his colleagues to discuss their views. He assured them that he would convey their thoughts to the party high command.

The former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh emphasized that everyone agrees on the need to adhere to the high command’s decisions, and there are no objections. “All are united. Our colleagues raised some issues, and I assured them that as the in-charge general secretary, I will protect everyone’s interests,” he added.

He further stated that if there is a deserving and winnable candidate, they will certainly be given a ticket. “I have assured them of this. Our colleagues have expressed some concerns, and I will communicate all of them to the party high command,” he said.

When asked about reports of Channi being the chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, he responded, “That is false. There has been no such discussion. We only want the Congress to form the government.”

Baghel also clarified that there has been no discussion regarding Warring’s replacement.
