Bhopal, July 11: In a shocking incident in Jhabua district, Madhya Pradesh, a tribal widow was gang-raped by three attackers during a robbery attempt at her home.
According to police reports, the incident occurred late Friday night in the Bori area. The woman alleged that armed intruders broke into her house demanding silver jewelry. When she informed them that she had no valuables, the assailants reportedly vandalized her home, scattering belongings and searching the premises.
The police stated that the attackers then sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene. The victim was hospitalized for treatment and underwent a medical examination. Forensic teams have visited the site to collect evidence.
Confirming the incident, Jhabua Superintendent of Police (SP) Padma Vilochan Shukla stated that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Multiple teams have been formed to track down the suspects.
The SP added that the victim’s statement has been recorded, and forensic evidence has been gathered. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits, with assurances that they will be arrested soon.
Political reactions have emerged in response to this incident. Opposition leader in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Umang Singhar, has demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and strict legal action against them.
Singhar described the incident as extremely shameful and condemned the act. He called for all suspects to be arrested promptly and for the harshest legal measures to be taken. He also urged for a fair investigation and accountability, warning that if justice is not served swiftly, the Congress party would initiate a democratic movement from the streets to the Assembly.
