Congress Makes Significant Changes Ahead of Maharashtra MLC Elections, Atul Londhe Claims Focus on Issues

Nagpur, June 18: Voting for 11 seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) is underway today. The Mahayuti alliance has already secured victory in six seats uncontested. Both the Maha Vikas Aghadi and Mahayuti are claiming wins for their respective candidates. Amidst this, Congress candidate Atul Londhe has made a notable statement regarding the elections.

In an interview, Londhe stated that Congress has made a significant and fundamental change in its electoral strategy. Previously, such elections were often associated with a “pay to vote” mentality, but this time, Congress has decided to campaign based on issues.

Londhe accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to weaken the opposition. Despite this, he asserted that Congress has entered the electoral fray with strength. He claimed that the BJP is sending its councilors to various states and cities because it is struggling to defend its actions.

He raised several issues related to state and local administration, highlighting that insufficient work has been done for farmers. Municipalities and councils are not receiving adequate funding. Londhe also questioned the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, citing weak health facilities and rising unemployment. He pointed out the challenges of waste management in urban areas.

Additionally, Londhe criticized the functioning of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, stating that despite two decades of BJP control, many development projects remain incomplete. He mentioned delays in developing sports facilities, noting that necessary funds for the proposed sports complex in South Nagpur have yet to be made available.

He emphasized that the Legislative Council should not just be a political platform but also a space for serious discussions on policy-making and laws. According to him, he can effectively raise these public interest issues in the house and is seeking support from councilors based on this.

Meanwhile, several councilors from Nagpur have expressed their support for Congress candidate Atul Londhe. One councilor expressed confidence that Londhe would effectively address irregularities and administrative challenges in local bodies, striving for better governance. Another councilor also expressed belief that Londhe would receive widespread support and could win by a significant margin.

In Latur, the district president of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) and vice president of the Ausa Municipal Council, Afsar Sheikh, expressed confidence in the Mahayuti’s victory. He stated that the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) is fully backing the Mahayuti alliance candidate and claimed that the alliance candidate would win by a large margin.
